Reservation in Education

Reservation in India is just simply considered as the weapon for the Vote Bank of political parties. But that is not the right definition. What I found in our country, people are not ready to any type of change in the society. They don’t want their servant to be educated more than them or their other family members. Govt. has reserved some percentage to the seats  in the Institutes or colleges for the Backward and socially cheated class of the society. Mostly these people are economically, socially and educationally backward. Because from a long time these people are considered to be untouchables for the upper caste. of the society i.e. the reservation is based on the caste system. I strongly favor the reservation policy but seek some modification in it. Reservation is a opportunity for the people who cannot afford for the higher education of the expensive education. But reservation must be on the economic and social backwardness. the castes like SC/ST really need reservation to bring changes in their educational and social status. I know many of my friend may not be agree with me but the fact is that the upper caste enjoyed many rights and privileges over the backward ones from centuries. Upper castes are treated warmly and this discrimination is too much in the states like Rajasthan where some castes and societies are given special respect irrespective of richness or poorness. I also believe that government must continue the reservation but also establish more institutes so that the ratio of education would increase and nobody would left out the college due to shortage of seats or colleges.

A brief view of Indian Education

The condition of education is very bad in India, esp. in villages and even in my own village, there are two govt. schools, one is nursery to 5th class and other is 1st to 8th class. And, near about 1000 students are there who study in these 2 schools. Only three teachers are there out of which 1 is Head master and rest two are Masters. There are no chairs to sit, no proper facility for shelter in rainy days, no proper drinking water facility but mid-day meal is served to every student. In addition, the condition or quality of that food is beyond imaginations. If you will see the condition of that place where food is cooked for the students, I think you will not be ready to take breath there for a while.

Govt. emphasis on books and clothes for the poor who are studying in govt. schools but what the quality of teachers present there to teach. The general knowledge of village students mostly is just like zero and the same is the case of teachers.

There are 5 fields of education or we can say 5 significant classification of education in India.

1. Primary Education

2. Secondary Education

3. Elder Education

4. Technical Education

5. Professional Education

In 1989, govt. made the national open school for those who are unable to study regularly due to some or the other reasons. Now it is known as national institute of open schooling (NIOS). It has a wide range all over the country. Every year thousands of students complete their 10th and 12th from NIOS.

Likewise, in the year 1985-86, Indira Gandhi national open university was established under the New national education policy, to provide correspondence courses for those who cannot be regular to the colleges.

With the aim to educate all the children of the age group of 14 years till 2010, govt launches the sarva shiksha abhiyan in 2002. In addition, govt. went further by 86th constitutional amendment 2002 by making right to education as a fundamental right of every citizen up to the age of 14 years.

In 2005, the govt. of India constitutes the National Knowledge commission with the aim to face all the challenges of 21st century in the field of education.

Yet, the condition is that every year near about 3 lack students go abroad for higher education. Only 50% come back to the country and rest settles there only. The total money that outflow on these students is much more than the amount needed to establish 10 more IITs and 10 more IIMs. Every year 80 thousand students take admission in US universities and near about 1-lack students take admission in Australian universities. There are five cities in Australia where the 80% of the source income of people comes from Indian student’s expenditures they make there while studying.

So, we need to reconsider our policies and rethink on the move that has been taken so far for betterment of Indian Education System. Readers are free to comment on that regarding what measures could be taken for level of education in India.

Management Theories: Myth and Realities

Earlier an article was posted on this blog regarding the applicability of theories in the real world. But that article was not successful in considering all the points related to that topic, and there are critics of that post too. One critic of that post was that we don’t have any research in this field then how can we emphasize on that the theories are of no use in the real situations. Yes, I agree on that point that really we have no research or facts to prove the same as it was merely a hypothesis which is yet to be proved. So, in this post I would like to write in the favor of applicability of theories in practical situations.

Management is not a science. The theories of science are applicable in every condition and have the same results and conclusions where ever they are implemented. Our mind must make it clear that science is completely different from management. Management is the soft science and not the complete science. Means to say that management have some theories; approaches and system, founded by some great people who by experience learn it of invent it. But these theories are not applicable everywhere and may not result in same conclusions in every organization.

Management is the subject based on personnel desires and knowledge. The meaning of management and the system of management is different from person to person and organization to organization, even if they are in same industry. For example, according to the Maslow’s Hierarchical Need Theory, basic needs to be filled up for motivational purpose. If a beggar is asked to work for two hour daily and promised to serve two time food in exchange of that work, most of the beggar will agree to work.

Let’s move on to my example in earlier post where I quoted that will a person be ready to open a tea shop? Here I believe that no one will open a tea shop. Here the point was that people will directly look for the esteem needs instead of basic needs. But a person who is pursuing MBA is already fulfilling his basic needs social needs. He is getting food to eat, clothes to wear, shelter to live and even more like laptop to use and mobile phones to talk etc. So his basic needs are already fulfilled. About his social needs, he has friends, family and some of them even have lovers too. Then how can we say that a person is not interested in basic needs and is directly looking for esteem needs, and Maslow’s Theory is irrelevant?

If a person don’t get food for 3 days and on 4th day if he is given 2 options, one to eat food and other to watch movie in PVR. If he has to choose one, just think which one he will opt for, obviously he will choose food. So, the thing is clear that the theories are the experiences of great thinkers and have significance in real life.

Actually the problem is not with our thoughts and perceptions but with our management courses or I will say with our whole education system that they make students book worm and not the expert mind without any scope for creativity. Our faculties insist students to think in the same direction as they think and not in the now direction. Because they fear, it will create problem for them and may disturb their comfortable life as they are teaching the same theories, topics and subjects from a long time, they have leant them thoroughly and do not want to make any more efforts. In short they resist change. Just visiting the institute delivering lectures and warning the students to study hard and pay attention on books otherwise they might fail or score less, this is the routine of most of the faculties. In a few institutions emphasis on making research on existing theories is given.

Management is like the top of the iceberg. There is a long process to implement it and the results may be favorable of may not be. I will end up by saying that management theories are not irrelevant but does not produce the results in every conditions. Their applicability is restricted.

Change EduAware

CCE: A Change that is harder to Accept

Long ago in 1964, Kothari Commission was passed resulting into the origin of CBSE. Since then we were following the same methods of studies and marking in schools. Our education system is very old, say more than 100 years old. This K-12(Kindergarten + 12 Standards) system was introduced by Britishers to create clerks for their own purpose and the sad thing is that we are still following that system without any major changes.

Now Govt. of India has changed the style of schooling education and replaced CBSE Board with CCE. The Board vide its Advisory No. 39 dated 20.9.2009 introduced Examination Reforms and Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) in the CBSE. Continuous and comprehensive evaluation is an education system newly introduced by CBSE in INDIA, for classes 9th and 10th. Continuous and comprehensive evaluation has been formulated by EDUCATION MINISTER KAPIL SIBAL to decrease the accumulated stress of board exams on the students and to introduce a more uniform and comprehensive pattern in education for the children all over the nation. As a part of this new system, student's marks will be replaced by grades which will be evaluated through a series of other factors along with academics. The aim is to reduce the workload on students and to improve the overall skill and ability of the student by means of evaluation of other activities. Grades are awarded to students based on work experience skills, dexterity, innovation, steadiness, teamwork, public speaking, behavior, etc. to evaluate and present an overall measure of the student's ability. This is supposed to help those students who are not good in academics but do well in other fields such as arts, humanities, sports, music, athletics, etc. Assessment is done through projects and internal assessments which will last the whole year.

Some students commit suicides when they secure fewer marks. Suppose 2 friends are there and both are equally talented and intelligent but if friend A secures 90% while the friend B secures 89 then the friend A is in rank 1 this hurts the sentiments of friend B and sometimes the undue pressure by parent increases stress on the minds of students leads to mental torture and can make friend B to commit suicide. The parents put their own expectations on the soft shoulders of their children which is very difficult for the children to bear that weight. By CCE what marks friend A and B secures will be same without any difference and both will get the same Grade. But the situation doesn't comes true when a student gets one grade less just by getting one mark less than other. If a person is getting 59% and other is getting 60%, one will get C Grade and other will get D grade. This 1% will make a big difference in that case.

Unit wise Marking Scheme:

The units specified for each term shall be assessed through both formative and summative assessments. In each term, there will be 2 formative assessments each carrying 10% weightage. The summative assessment in the first term will carry 20% weightage and in second term it will carry 40% weightage. There will not be any Unit tests except there will be formative and summative assessments which will be covered in 2 terms with first term carrying 40 marks and second term carrying 60 marks. Students will not have to learn the complete syllabus for exams, the portion of syllabus once completed in tests will not be repeated.

Impacts of this change

It is supposed that this reform will also assess the students on the basis of extra-curricular activities like sports, music, athletics etc. but here the practical experience of some of the people says that in-spite of reducing the burden of students, it is creating more pressure. Just due to this pressure the students are not getting time for sports, music, athletics etc. Earlier students used to study in exam days only but now they have to study whole years in order to prepare for formative and summative assessments, as these marks are going to be add into the finals. Some students say that they feel overburdened because of daily assignments and projects. Thanks to surprise tests and presentations, they can't afford to miss school even for a day. Teachers admit, it's a mix of both, "CCE aims at bringing out the latent talent of students. CCE is quite student-friendly but giving them a lot of written work as homework defeats the purpose. We stress more on classroom activities like pictorial depiction, role play, just-a-minute and no homework. Probably, that's why students in our school enjoy more.''

There is also a provision that there may be two options for the students first those who want to opt for board and the second for those who don't. There is another provision of online certification. There would be online demand test for those who don't want to take the board exams but also want to get the certificate later on. This certificate would be equivalent to 10th class certificate exam.

The purpose of introducing is going to be unsolved, as it has made students busier with assessments and tests instead of helping them to get outdoors and reconnect with the places that make our country so special. We need large scale reforms to make our education system competitive to the rest part of the world, but it is difficult to say how many more decades it will take?

Facts EduAware

The Origin of Indian Education System
Our education system is based on British Education policies that they lay down during their rule over India. We still follow the same structure; it is another matter that it is not even followed in Britain also.
After Independence, Pt. Nehru, who was influenced by western education implemented the western education in place of Indian Education. And the result is that Indians like me are unable to write in Hindi but good in our colonial ruler's language English. Our condition is really bad. Indians could not speak well their mother tongue but are good in English. Well this is just my personal view not the official past of education system.
The foundation of India's present education system of higher education was laid by the British Colonial regime in the mid-19th century. It was William Bentinck's mind behind the introduction of higher education in India. The British education implants in India were designed to serve the economic, political and administrative interests of the British and in particular to consolidate and maintain their dominance in the country.
In 1948-1949, the government of India created the University Education Commission (Chairman Dr. S. Radha Krishnan) to study the development of higher education and make proposals for its future expansion and improvement. Some of its recommendations are still pending or you can say Government disapproves most of the suggestions of Radhakrishnan Commission.
In 1964, government setup a Education Commission named as Kothari Commission under the name of its chairman P.S. Kothari. It was first attempt in India's education History to look comprehensively of education and to develop a blueprint for a 'national System of Education'. CBSE is the main output of this commission.
Many other commissions are setup from time to time but hardly few suggestions are implemented. Even the suggestions of Prof. Yashpal Committee on Education which submitted its report a year back are not implemented.
The vital question arises here that when government does not want to reform the education system, why they setup such commissions, committees and waste he money of public? If government is not agreeing with the suggestions, then why not such experts and experienced people are hired to advise the government for necessary reforms or new schemes? There is lack of political will in our country for any type of education reform?
Here is some data and just think what is the condition of education in our country.
  • About 200 million students enroll for primary education and only 20 million are able to finish class 12th.
  • Nearly 1/5th of the primary schools are single teacher schools.
  • About 2.2 million new teachers are required in next 3 years.
  • The gross enrollment ratio at the secondary level in India is 52% which is far lower than the countries like Vietnam (72%), Sri Lanka (83%), and China (91%)
Now it's a high time for the Government to eradicate the Bureaucracy and take rapid actions otherwise the situation is going to be out of control.

Silent Conversation
I was sitting on my chair in my room along with my laptop, and it was connected with the internet and I was logged in to Gtalk and Twitter. On Gtalk I was getting IM from one of my senior and I was replying, and on twitter I was in touch of the whole world.
CNN: President Obama is in Afghanistan
Kjohar25: Sat all day wondering about what film I should direct next!!! Maybe I am just thinking too much… self-pressure defeats creativity
TOITopStories: Who Paid David Headley's Credit Card Bill
CNNbrk: Michigan State returns to final Four with 70-69 win over Tennessee.
These were nothing but the updates from twitter and I was in touch of the whole world.
Suddenly my sister came online and I started chatting with her and I spent half an hour from my precious time while talking to my sister.
"Hiii"
"Hello"
"How are you"
"Fine, as usual"
"…………………………………." And the meaningless conversation kept going on for next half an hour.
My mother entered my room and she find me busy with my laptop and she thought that I am studying as the room was full of silence, but it was silent conversation and she was unaware of it. I was not studying but was chatting and interacting with the world without saying anything with any one.
I realized that the world has become silent and we have become deaf and dumb. It was the moment when I realized that everything has been changed. There was time when Tongue and ear were most important organs for live conversation but now we were doing live conversation without mouth and ears, but with Eyes and Fingers. During whole process I was silent but talking with the world.
My fingers were replacing my mouth and my eyes were replacing my ears. And it seemed to be an era of change. Have you ever thought these kinds of silly things, never, but start thinking and try to find how the things are getting changed. You will find it interesting and will realize how we are becoming slaves of machines. We need to think on that that how we are changing the rules of nature. We are breaking all the rules of nature. Now in The Next Education System we are trying to change the old styles of education and are trying to make the whole education digital and online. We will get live updates of what is happening in the world, flow of information is going to be very fast. We will not have to study outdated topics, we will not have to cram the theories and write it in the exams, but we will try to practice the theories like a lawyer, we will have arguments and counter arguments too. Everything is going to be change, the styles, the methods, the techniques, technologies and even the outdated syllabuses. And it will be interesting and challenging too to enter the changed world with The Next Education System.

Illiteracy EduAware

Illiteracy Everywhere
Literacy, as defined in Census operations, is the ability to read and write with understanding in any language. A person who can merely read but cannot write is not classified as literate. Any formal education or minimum educational standard is not necessary to be considered literate. Adopting these definitions, the literacy level of the country as a whole was only 29.45 per cent with male literacy at 39.45 per cent and female literacy at 18.69 per cent. As per the latest Census estimates (2001), the All-India figure has gone up to 65.38 per cent; About three-fourths of our menfolk (75.85 %) are literate whereas over half of our womenfolk (54.16 %) are also literate.
The problems of illiteracy are not confined to India, but are also in developed countries too. Daedalus, the journal of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, devoted the Spring 1990 issue to study the problem of Literacy in America. The Journal quotes Joseph Murphy, Chancellor, City University of New York who stated: "There are as many as 60 million illiterate and semi-literate adults in America today, because poverty and illiteracy go hand in hand."
A leading German magazine 'Stern' point out that even in the United Kingdom, "One out of five adults in the land of William Shakespeare and Harry Potter is practically illiterate or has problems counting money in the purse." According to Daniel A. Wagner, Director, Literacy Research Center at the University of Pennsylvania, over one billion individuals worldwide, nearly 25% of today's youth and adults, can't read. Even fewer comprehend numeracy and far fewer have access to electronic superhighway. "Achieving a literate society in which adults can fully participate in the workplace, community, and family will be a major challenge for the world in the coming millennium".
Illiteracy is one of the major problems faced by the developing world, specially Africa and South-East Asia and has been identified as the major cause of socio-economic and ethnic conflicts that frequently surface in the region. With the limited definition of 'literacy' being adopted for enumeration purposes, there has been concern on the content of a Mass Literacy program. As per the definition stated in constitution, 99.9% are literate in Kerela, and everyone knows to read and write in Kerela. This is the census data. But as per a recent annual survey, ASER conducted by Pratham NGO 1.1% in Rural Kerala can't read anything in their own language, 4.9% can't read anything in English, 30% cannot even recognize numbers up to 99. The ASER states much clear picture of education status of India. Even in Kerala there are many students who cannot Read and Write, can't do easy calculations.
There is a need for a core curriculum to bring nearly all pupils above a certain threshold of learning, for thereafter all subsequent learning is made easier. But then, there is also the concern for democratization of primary education. As a UNESCO publication puts it: "A primary school that fails to achieve certain minimum and useful objectives, that fails to meet the people's needs, which fails to interest either the children or their parents, will inevitably end up by losing in one way or the other".

Tech EduAware

Education for Intellects
We are living in the world of Software and Technologies where we have software for everything. We have the software for accounting, for Database handling, for notes making, for error checking and now for Health Care Information too. Yes, now Microsoft has introduced a new Health Solution that is Connecting Hospitals with Patients and Referring Physicians to Improve Coordination of Care. Microsoft Corp. announced Microsoft HealthVault Community Connect, a new software solution for hospitals designed to help them improve care coordination and engage patients and their families in managing their own health. HealthVault Community Connect enables hospitals to give patients and referring physicians' access, after discharge, to electronic copies of the patient's personal health data generated at the hospital. The product also lets patients preregister for hospital appointments online using their electronic personal health information to populate hospital forms in advance. The product will be available in the third quarter of 2010.
Here we need to understand the need of keeping ourselves updated and TechSavy. But unfortunately our education structure doesn't fulfill this criterion. Where we are using Windows 7 but still in text books we are reading about Windows XP. Where we have excellent Operating Systems based on Graphic User Interface, we are still taught MS DOS. Where the world is using Blue Ray Discs, we in the text books are still reading about Floppy Discs, and Magnetic Tapes. We all know that we are the exporters of Best IT minds but we lack knowledge to the grass-root level. Whatever the best IT minds are produced, these are not produced in schools and colleges but in Private Institutions or coaching Centre i.e. by their personal efforts.
Our syllabuses are outdated but our youth are not. They are putting their own efforts to learn new Gadgets or soft-wares but on their own cost. Teachers are teaching whatever is written in books, and books are theoretical enough and outdated too. Board doesn't bother to make it updated timely. Why the board is stickled to the out-dated syllabus? The answer here is that the system is bulky enough that it takes time to bring the change, so, they resist change and the teachers even don't want to learn new things as they are busy enough solving their Household issues. And the result is that, on some new invention Authorities have to call meetings to decide whether to change the syllabus in next session or not.
Some of the private are really putting efforts in this direction and they providing updated material. These institutions are not following the traditional systems but are using latest minds and technologies. They are providing e-classes, video conferencing, education with new and interesting techniques, vocational trainings etc. Some organizations working in this field are Educomp Solutions Ltd, IGNOU and many more. These organizations are adopting Audio Visual Methods of Studies, which are more appealing, as what we see with eyes is more appealing than what we hear with ears. Private companies like Educomp. Now the studies are more practical. When some chapter on science is to be taught, it is taught on projector by the use of videos and students do experiments in labs. Students are studying at their homes, by way of online classes.
In the same direction recently Microsoft launched an e-book which teaches the ways of digital story telling. A story is made on a particular subject and then the story is presented by joining relevant pictures and audios into videos. Everyone is trying to make the education interesting and worthy. We need the same sort of efforts from our government so that the base of education could be strong, students can get updated knowledge and we can develop Intellectual India.

Child EduAware

Education need to be Outdoor
Today, however, Children are losing touch with the land, water, and wildlife that sets our nation apart. They spend most of their time in indoor activities. And the pressure of studies doesn't let them to enjoy outdoor world. Children spend half as much time outside as their parents did. That means less time playing and fighting, fishing and swimming, hunting and hiking, camping and exploring, hiding and seeking. This trend is one that we can and must reverse by helping Youth get outdoors and reconnect with the places that make our country so special.
We need to create enthusiasm among the Nation's young people about protecting our natural and cultural heritage. We need to run Programmes throughout the Nation to offer opportunities for youth to learn about lands, our waters, and our cultural Heritage. We hope that these programmes can turn Interior lands into outdoor laboratories where students and teachers can experience first-hand the science lessons they learn in the classroom.
Unhealthy Eating and TV Viewing
If you're concerned about your child developing unhealthy eating habits, becoming lethargic or gaining excess weight, it might be time to put them on a diet. A television diet, that is.
A recent study in the Journal of Nutrition Education and Behaviour conducted by UC Davis examined the commercials running on 12 networks during the weekday afternoon and Saturday morning hours, the times when children would be most likely to be watching. Out of 5,724 commercials recorded, 1,162 were food-related. And of those, 70% were advertisements for fast-food, junk food and soda; 34% were for places that sell or products that are considered ''food on the run."
What can parents do to curb the amount of junk food messaging their child sees every day? Completely eliminating television may not be the answer for every family, but limiting television viewing can have a profoundly positive effect on your child's health and well-being. Here are some TV diet tricks to try, Play videos, Take your kids grocery shopping,Keep your TV viewing in check too, let them play Cricket or Football, etc.
Educate them to Play and Enjoy Outdoor and restrict them to TV ads until and unless they are matured enough.

Market Strategy EduAware

A lot of brand names comes and goes into the Market but we never bother about that. We should keep an eye on that that what is coming into the market and why. What is the strategy behind which product? Let us discuss some of the brand establishment strategies by various companies.
Hero Honda once launched 'HERO HONDA JOY' into the Market but it was a big failure. Till then hero Honda had spent a lot on its R&D and its marketing. And it had spent a lot on its design and machineries to produce that design. But JOY was a big failure. Then Honda planned to launch the same bike with a different name DAWN but could not succeed. Though it made little bit change in design and colour but could not prove to be successful. They spent a lot on advertisement but they could not create JOY among the people and even DAWN could not prove itself the king of Dawn.
Again Hero Honda made some modification and changed the stickers and little bit design and launched the same bike again with a modified name CD-DAWN. Now the name worked because CD-100 of Hero Honda was a great success in its history. So, Hero Honda decided to use CD in its name. And now this time the bike was a great success.
The main thing was that the design of all the three bikes was similar and the engines of the bikes were 100 cc.
Now again Hero Honda opted for the same strategy. The customers who were not able to afford Splender, to attract them it launched a bike with a design similar to Splender. It was a low cost bike costing around 34000 where splender was around 41000. The name of this bike was CD Deluxe. Again it used the goodwill of CD-100 by using CD in name.
Hero Honda has done lot of experiments with names. To modify Splender it launched Splender Plus and the modification of Passion was Passion Plus.
Learning by Analysing is interesting way of studies, it creates interest and we get broader idea about market.

Critics EduAware

The education system is to be blamed that we study only one aspect of the Theories which were written by the Top Most management thinkers. We never tries to criticize theories and even our teachers says that this is written and we need to learn it as it is. But, we are in the next education system and we need to do whatever is practical. In my previous I have shown the use of Theories in original Life but it is not every time.
If yes, then simply answer only one question, Are we ready to open a Tea Shop after doing MBA. Tea Shop is such kind of business which is always profitable.
The Straight answer is NO.
Why not, it can fulfil our Basic and Physiological needs.
No, because it's a matter of status, that after doing MBA how can I do that.
Now, with this example I want to show that here our Status and Esteem needs are more important than our basic and physiological needs. Without caring for the 1st level needs, we want to fulfil 4th level needs. So, here Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs Theory is proved wrong. The PRIORITIES of different people are different in different situations.
We need to do such a activities to make our studies interesting. We need to challenge the theories. Why we are studying those things which have no importance and relevance to the practical implementations and which are out-dated. Same is the case with Hawthorne Studies. We cannot accept all these things blindly and we need to be rational in taking decisions.

Market EduAware

Are the theories which we study in MBA going to help us anywhere… It's a big question. These will help us if we will came to know that how can we relate these things in the reality. This could only be taught by the Professionals. So, let's be professional and discuss the things which will help us in the reality.
Motivation Theories
We have studied the Motivation theories in Organisational Behaviour. Let's correlate these theories with the Practical World. If I am a marketing guy how these theories are going to help me? While analysing the need of customers we should keep in mind the Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs Theory e.g.
Farhan is going to sell the insurance to a person who is unemployed, will he purchase that insurance…
No, as per Maslow's theory he will not purchase because until and unless his physiological and basic needs will not be completed, he will not purchase the insurance. Here I say that a theory helped me, and I will not try to sell a product related to Higher level need to a person whose lower level needs are not fulfilled yet.
In the same way Herzberg's Satisfactors and Dissatisfactors can also helps us in real life marketing. A marketer should try to understand that unavailability of Dissatisfactors will completely ruin the market and Availability of Satisfactors will Pump the market.
For e.g. Availability of After Sales Service is a Dissatisfactor, And Providing additional facilities is Satisfactor.
After sales service is Dissatisfactor because its unavailability will dissatisfy customer and it's not mandatory that its availability will satisfy them. On the other hand Additional Facilities is Satisfactor because its unavailability is not going to Dissatisfy them but its availability will definitely satisfy customers.
So, a marketer should keep in mind, the Satisfactors and Dissatisfactors of his Product.
A customer may have three type of needs…
Needs in his conscious mind
Needs in his sub conscious mind
Needs in his unconscious mind
A marketer needs to understand the needs of all the three states of mind of a customer, and the need of all the three kind of mind might be different.
